The period after the death of a loved one is of course a highly emotional time, which is why insurers aim to make the process of Maryland life insurance claims as simple as possible. There are a few steps you will need to complete.

In the first instance, phone your insurance agent. Those who are unsure of the deceased’s insurance agent should try to locate a copy of their policy and phone the insurance provider or agent. The agent will advise of any forms you will need to complete and ask you to provide a copy of the death certificate. You may then be asked to decide on the manner of payment. Depending on the policy, you may have the choice to be paid out in full in a lump sum or with a set amount over pre-determined schedule. Alternatively you might choose a life income option (an ongoing set amount that is determined by the amount of death benefit, your gender and current age) or an interest income option. In this case you would receive an ongoing payment of interest only, with the balance to be left to a nominated third party on your death.

Maryland life insurance may provide valuable financial protection in the event of your death or the death of a loved one. To find out more, feel free to contact your insurance agent at any stage for advice and information.
