Do Health Insurance carriers cover cosmetic surgery gone awry
To my friends and Fans of Fox Insurance Group LLC
Well, it’s that time of year again- my almost birthday. I don’t know about you but I would never go to a doctor these days unless I had it booked a year in advance. I am just too darn busy to hear that I have shrunken in height and grown in weight. What a lovely image, don’t you think? Part of the wellness exam for a broad my age is to have the “oh-so-delightful” mammogram. It’s not bad enough to have to endure the yearly pap smear- legs around your neck while donning steel clamps to keep them and every other cavern for the world to see... excuse me while I digress... The “mam” is in a class of its own. It is a “go in with grapefruits and come out with bananas type of test.” Can you believe what they put our breasts through? Don’t you feel like a Ubangi on the cover of National Geographic for hours after you leave your designated diagnostic center? Try having the mammogram with IMPLANTS!!! Just when you thought you knew the best and the worst of breast enhancements, this exam pops out of the sky.
Yes the yearly breast exam is probably how I feel it must have been to be tortured in Turkey for a tiny touch of hashish back in the 70’s. Take that vision and multiply the contortions by infinity and you have your MAMMOGRAM with IMPLANTS!
When the tech described what I was in for, I cried and then skedaddled down the hall to hide behind the radiator. My fear was not so much the pain of inverting the implant and shoving it down into my stomach while the photos were being taken but the fear for messing with my $10k investment.
As luck would have it, something went awry. I went one way and the boob went another and before you know it, the radiologist called me back for an MRI because she noticed a rupture in my right breast! Oh lordy me. All I cared to know was who was going to pay for this MRI or M I insane! Plastic surgery is never covered by health insurance. But are disasters from the plastic surgery ever covered, is the question. I found out the hard way. It depends on your carrier. It is completely up to the insurance carrier as to who pays for what. I was particularly pleased to find out that though my plastic surgeon was scared stiff to give me a referral for the MRI, thus potentially admitting fault, my hot and hunky primary care doc agreed to it if I let him cop a feel.
So the outcome of this idiocy was that the rupture was in fact, no rupture. It was just a shadow from the imaging. Dr. Hot and Hunky scheduled me for 1/4ly checkups. BCBS of Mass made up for what they didn’t cover of my kid’s C Section. My advice is don’t be a BOOB! Before any surgery, planned or otherwise, get the perimeters of your coverage. If not, you might just be exposed and not the kind of exposed we princesses like.
Ciao for now and catch up with you later,
Ms Fox.
